How To Be More Productive When Cleaning Your Home

. 3 min read

We all tend to view cleaning as a chore that we must do. Often, this task seems extremely time-consuming, boring, and even challenging. Well, what if we tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way? Cleaning is not so much about taking down the mess but taking care of your home and the people who live in it. It’s a part of life that we have to accept and do on a regular basis. So why not approach it with all seriousness and preparations? Every activity you do can be improved to its optimal efficiency. Let’s do the same with cleaning. Here are a few rules that will help you be more productive when cleaning your home.

Keep a schedule

Quite often, people decide to clean when they see it’s already time to do so. However, a good rule can be scheduling your cleaning time and the type of things you should do during that time. For example, make a note of when was the last time you washed your curtains and cleaned your windows. Schedule the next cleaning session when you find it appropriate. Also, make a schedule for things that have to be done weekly, like dusting, mopping, etc. However, pick a specific day and time, so you will build your day around it and have enough time to complete everything you plan that day.

Also, keep in mind that not all types of cleaning have to be done weekly or daily. Some of the cleaning can be done once in two weeks or even a month, and it still will be fine. So, if it is not dirty, don’t clean it. Don’t just clean the windows because it’s in your schedule. Clean them when you see they need it. You can always write it down on your to-do list for the next week. This rule will make your life much easier.

Don’t postpone

As far as the schedule goes, if something needs fixing right now, do it. Don’t wait till it’s your cleaning time. Don’t bring with you that college students mentality to postpone things to the very last moment. Recall how many times you had to go searching for things like my perfect paper reviews because you ran out of time to write. Overall, doing small things on a daily basis will save you a lot of time when you start cleaning the entire house. Just think about it. Spending 10-30 minutes per day to do a few small things feels like nothing. It won’t tire you and take too much time. However, combine those 10 minutes a day together, and you’ll end up with at least an hour of work.

Also, a nice habit will be doing things right away, like washing your dishes right after you are done eating. Make a bed after you are done with your morning routine (it’s best to leave your sheets to ‘breath’ and cool down for a while after your night sleep). Overall, doing things along the way will soon turn into a habit that will save you time during more serious cleaning. It’s easier to prevent a mess than to deal with it afterward.

Distribute tasks

Try to distribute tasks if you live with a partner or children. Everyone should contribute to making your home better. Hence, distribute the tasks among everyone living in the house. Even small children can participate. Teaching your kids responsibility from an early age is a sign of good parenting. They can clean toys after themselves or help you fold laundry. Think of the tasks they can manage and ask them to help you out. No nagging, though. Your kids shouldn't view cleaning as a punishment. It’s just a chore like any other. Overall, don’t try to make everything by yourself. It’s exhausting and time-consuming.

Declutter

A cluttered home leads to a cluttered life. Help yourself by decluttering your home every now and again. When you feel like you have too much stuff in your house, you are automatically more reluctant to start cleaning. You just think that it will take forever, and most likely, you are right about it. Hence, try to avoid bringing and keeping things at home that you don’t actually need.

Make it fun

Cleaning doesn’t have to be a boring chore that you just need to get over with. Think of how you can make this process more interesting and enjoyable to you. It’s important that you don’t view cleaning as a punishment but rather as a way to care for your home, family, and yourself. Hence, it should be a rewarding experience that helps you live a better and more productive life.

Also, don’t forget to treat yourself afterward. If you spend half a day cleaning your house, spend the rest doing something that you love. A reward can be particularly useful when you are doing the work with your family. Hence, once you are done, engage in some bonding activities, like walking in the park or watching a movie with some delicious take out.
