For a long time, the ErgoTune Supreme was the chair I recommended above all others in Australia. But in this update, its successor edges it out. The new model fixes a few of the Supreme’s minor annoyances while keeping the same price. The differences are minor, to be fair, but an advantage is an advantage, so the ErgoTune Joobie now takes the top spot.

To start, the ErgoTune Joobie is built the same way as the Supreme, and it’s made to fit different body sizes with three seat-height options:

• small (up to 159 cm),
• medium (160 to 179 cm),
• and tall (180 to 210 cm).

Getting the right seat-height option matters because a chair that’s too tall or too low forces your legs, hips, and lower back into awkward positions. That’s where most of the strain and discomfort start.

Even though the ErgoTune Joobie steps ahead of the Supreme, it isn’t perfect. The arm pads are still on the firm side since they use the same material as the Supreme. After a long stretch of typing or leaning, you feel it.

The height range of the armrests hasn’t improved either: they don’t go any lower than the Supreme. If you’re on the shorter end of the average height, they sit too high, and there’s no adjustment that fixes it.

Another issue is that the mesh material on ErgoTune Joobie colour options stains easily. To cover against this, choose the charcoal black colour shown above; otherwise, you must be extra mindful around it.

Overall Thoughts

The ErgoTune Joobie delivers good value. It includes the key features you’d expect from a higher-end office chair but stays reasonably priced. It’s comfortable, highly adjustable, and built well enough to hold up for years.

The Recess Ergo Pro 2 is a new addition to my list of the best ergonomic chairs in Australia. I’ve tried it briefly at the Sydney showroom, though I haven’t put it through a complete, thorough test yet.

Even so, my first impressions were strong enough that I’ve replaced the Buro Tidal Mesh Back Chair with it, and to be fair, the Buro is now hard to find anyway, almost like it's being faded out.

Here are my initial impressions and thoughts:

My first impressions of the Ergo Pro 2 chair at the showroom were its build quality and the clean, well-finished look.

The backrest uses a nylon plastic shell that feels stable when you lean or shift in it. It is a mesh design made with partially recycled materials. And it has a steel-chrome base that adds more rigidity than the nylon bases you see on cheaper office chairs, and the PU wheels rolled quietly across the showroom floor, leaving no marks or susceptible damage.

Nothing feels loose or cheaply put together, and rightly so, as it costs upward of $500. Its 130 kg weight capacity, similar to the Ergotune Joobie, is in line with what you’d expect at this price range.

The Australian-made chair comes with eight ergonomic adjustments, which puts it in the same general range as most mid-tier ergonomic chairs.

The core adjustments are here: seat-height adjustment, adjustable seat depth, 4D armrests, two-way lumbar support, adjustable backrest tilt, and the option to add an adjustable headrest.

The other limitation is the return process. Because the gas lift doesn’t always separate cleanly from the base, getting the chair back into its original packaging takes more effort than you'll expect.

I also find that for people over 190 cm tall, the Desky Pro+, much like most office chairs, would have you sitting a little low. And while the seat depth adjustment isn't manually adjustable, you can manage that automatically as you recline in the desk chair.

Best Value Executive Office Chair

The NOUHAUS Posture Office Chair used to be my top value pick for anyone wanting an executive-style chair instead of a mesh ergonomic model. It held that spot from around the second or third update of this article.

But the reseller pricing in Australia has risen enough that I no longer consider it the best-value option in this category. Nevertheless, it's an excellent ergonomic chair that feels very comfortable to use.

Why I Initially Chose It

The NOUHAUS Posture has a unique design with a good amount of adjustability. It comes with a patented lumbar system, an adjustable tilt mechanism, armrest adjustments, and seat height adjustments between 50 and 60 cm.

The seat uses an open-cell foam cushion, and the head area is padded, which gives it more of a traditional “executive chair” feel compared to mesh-backed alternatives on this list.
